Cortes de Cima is situated on the slopes of the 400m high mountains of the Serra do Mendro. The great diversity of terroirs in our vineyards varies between Mediterranean brown clay over limestone, mica schist, quartz-rich granite and well-graded gravel.
The oldest vines, surrounding the house and the winery, were planted in 1991. The names of the wines originate from these vineyard plots – “Cortes de Cima”, “Chaminé de Gião” and “Courela dos Pageis”.
The meaning of Cortes de Cima: An open, enclosed area or covered enclosure where livestock is kept, on top of a hill.
A timeless wine, produced only from select areas of the vineyard, modern and disruptive, it reflects the increasingly profound knowledge that the family possesses in the vineyard. A blend always composed of Alvarinho and Viognier grapes, which displays great freshness and exuberance after 8 months of aging in French oak barrels. This wine is the result of ambitious work that seeks to reconcile innovation and tradition, values that characterize the José de Mello family.
