Herdade São Miguel Pé de Mãe wine is a tribute to the traditional Alentejo grape varieties, which are increasingly forgotten and losing importance in the region. Pé de Mãe is the name given to the vines selected for vegetative reproduction. These vines are chosen not only for the quality of their fruit but also for their good adaptation to a specific terroir and resistance to so-called wood diseases.

Soil: Clayey-Schist.

Exam Notes

Color: Open ruby.

Aroma: Red berries and orange blossom with balsamic notes.

Taste: Good acidity, smooth tannins, fruity and persistent finish.

Pairing: Soft cheeses, stews, sausages and red meats.

Winemaking: Hand-harvested with selection on the plot. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature between 21ºC and 25ºC. Fermentation in stainless steel with whole berries and 20% of the stems. 30-day maceration. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.

Internship: Aged for 18 months in 5000L French oak barrels.
