The grapes for this wine come from the Carril vineyard, a north-facing vineyard over 70 years old, and from old vines around 100 years old near Quinta de Nápoles. Batuta results from a delicate vinification process, with prolonged maceration but minimal extraction, where every detail is carefully considered to obtain a complex, refined, and elegant wine. It is full of concentration, typical of old Douro vines, yet simultaneously fresh and delicate.

Soil: Shale

Grape varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Rufete, Malvasia Preta and others

Color It is concentrated, and when the glass is shaken, violet hues appear.

Aroma: It has a characteristic graphite note, floral nuances on a base of wild berries such as blackberry or blackcurrant, very well integrated with the wood.

Palate Young, precise and structured, but always with the freshness and elegance that so characterizes Niepoort. It finishes long, persistent and spicy.

Conservation: He will age gracefully.

Pairing: Batuta is very versatile when combined with meats and fish such as monkfish, squid, or roasted octopus.

Service: Decanting is recommended one hour in advance.

Winemaking: The 2019 vintage was characterized by a dry climate. Spring began with high temperatures, which decreased and remained low throughout the summer. There was some rainfall, which occurred at the right time for plant development, and flowering took place in excellent weather conditions, resulting in a medium to high yield of very healthy grapes. The mild days and cool nights of August resulted in slow and balanced ripening.

The grape harvest began on August 8th. The peak of the harvest occurred during the week of September 8th to 15th, ending on October 1st.

Aging: After careful selection, both in the vineyard and in the winery, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with skin maceration for about 80 days. After the long maceration, the wine aged for about 20 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new wood.
