Product: OLHO DE MOCHO RESERVA TINTO 2019 0.75

Country of origin: Portugal

Producer: Rocim Estate

Origin: Vidigueira, Alentejo

The oldest vineyard at Herdade do Rocim has always been affectionately called "Olho de Mocho" (Owl's Eye), due to its abundance of this wild flower, scientifically known as Tolpis barbata. Because of its special nature, it could only give rise to a unique and authentic wine, which we now call "Olho de Mocho Single Vineyard".

Soil: Low productivity, of granitic and schistous origin. Great soil potential for vine cultivation and for producing excellent wines.

Climate: Typically Mediterranean, in the Vidigueira wine sub-region where the climatic conditions are the most temperate in the Alentejo, providing an optimal microclimate for the production of high-quality wines.

Grapes: Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira

Winemaker: Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro

Exam Notes

Color: Deep and concentrated ruby.

Aroma: Ripe black fruit. Notes of tobacco, spices, and mint.

Taste: Elegant and structured on the palate. Firm tannins, austerity and freshness. Long and persistent finish.

Pairing: Enjoy with lightly caramelized roasted red meat, or with black fruit jam. It also pairs well with a rich Portuguese cheese like "Azeitão" or a traditional "Roquefort".

Service: Serve at a temperature of 16-18 °C.

Winemaking: Hand-harvested in 12 kg boxes on September 14th for Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira. After passing through the cold chamber, the grapes underwent a meticulous selection process on a sorting table, followed by total destemming and very light crushing of the berries. Fermentation took place in cement vats at a controlled temperature for a period of 13 days.

Internship: Aged in 500L French oak barrels for a period of 16 months.
