Product: QUINTA VALE Dª MARIA VINHA DO RIO TINTO 2018 0.75

 Country of origin: Portugal

Producer: Lemos & Van Zeller, Ltd.

Origin: Douro

Since 1996, our first harvest at Quinta Vale D. Maria, we have observed unique characteristics in each vineyard plot. Each and every one has a story to tell. In 2004, the year of our daughter Francisca's 18th birthday, we planted the Francisca Vineyard with the old and "familiar" Tinta Francisca (a grape variety first planted in Portugal, in the Douro region, in 1756, at Quinta de Roriz – the van Zeller family estate until 2009), along with Touriga Franca, Sousão, Rufete, and Touriga Nacional. The vineyard covers 4.5 hectares.

Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca

Winemaker: Cristiano van Zeller / Sandra Tavares da Silva / Joana Pinhão.

Exam Notes

Color: Intense color, with shades of violet, purple, and dark red.

Aroma: There is a certain mature character to this wine, which displays aromas of raspberries, plums, and black cherries.

Taste: Combined with fresh notes of rockrose, no overly obvious, direct flavor emerges, but one that appears with elegant discretion as the wine is drunk and evolves in the glass.

Harmonization: Its silky texture and fruity aromas make this wine a good match for a variety of dishes, particularly meat dishes. It can also be served with richer dishes, with sauces and spices.

Winemaking: All grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected on a sorting table and crushed in lagares (traditional stone troughs) where they then ferment for 7 to 10 days at temperatures of 22º to 27ºC.

Internship: New 225L French Allier oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation and aging take place for 21 months. The final selection of barrels and the blending of the wine generally takes place between May and June of the second year after the harvest.
